AWS User Group Leeds returns on Tuesday 14 July 2026 with a session focused on observing applications running on AWS Lambda. The headline talk comes from Darasimi Ajewole, covering Lambda and OpenTelemetry — a practical look at how to instrument serverless functions using the open-source observability framework. A second talk on building a learning platform with serverless and AI is listed as TBC. This is a rescheduled version of the May event that had to be cancelled at short notice.

The meetup runs from 17:45 to 20:30 at Accenture Software & Platform Engineering on the second floor of Aspley House, 78 Wellington Street, Leeds city centre. Doors open at 17:45 for networking, pizza arrives at 18:00, and the first talk kicks off around 18:15. After the sessions wrap, the group moves to the Editor's Draft to continue the conversation. The format is in-person, free to attend, and aimed at engineers and architects working with AWS — though anyone curious about serverless observability will find it relevant.

AWS User Group Leeds is one of the longer-running cloud community groups in the city. Organised by Dave R. and a small volunteer team, it meets roughly monthly and covers the breadth of the AWS ecosystem: architecture, DevOps, infrastructure, and the services that sit across all of them. Accenture Software & Platform Engineering are sponsoring the evening, providing the venue, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and pizza. The group operates a code of conduct and anti-harassment policy, and the organising team actively works to broaden the diversity of speakers and attendees.

Why attend

Darasimi Ajewole's talk on Lambda and OpenTelemetry is a concrete, practitioner-level session on a problem many serverless teams hit: getting useful observability out of functions that are ephemeral by design. OpenTelemetry is the standard the industry is converging on, so this is directly applicable if you're running anything on Lambda.

Beyond the talks, the pre-session networking and the post-event drinks at the Editor's Draft are where most of the useful conversations happen. The group draws engineers, architects and cloud practitioners from across Leeds, and Accenture are covering food and drink for the evening.
